About me
I have been working in a design environment for most of my career, in a variety of industries. From leaving school in the mid 1980’s I started working in the signage / retail design world. Learning some invaluable skills in the art of design and hand drawing everything in both scale drawings and full size manufacturing layouts. These skills still serve me well, even though my job was made much easier with the advent of the computer.
I worked in the signage / retail industry for approximately 25 years and worked with all of the main retailers in the U.K. as well as many overseas
car manufacturers, most of the west end theatres and work on some movies.
During this time I was given the opportunity to work at the chelsea flower show in 2003, for fetzer wines. My part in that initial garden was a small one,
but it opened doors which lead to me working on a total of ten gardens at both chelsea and hampton court flower shows, 9 of which were main avenue
gardens, of which 8 won a gold medal and one a silver gilt.
From working at these RHS flower shows I met some very interesting people, one of which invited me to work on a project that became the largest single
thing I have ever done... a jacobean dovecot in sussex, which had been hit by a falling tree during a storm. The tree had all but demolished the top of the
building, leaving the roof in a very poor state. The site had not been accessed for many decades and the building was in a very unstable condition.
I painstakingly took the dovecot apart brick by brick. Replaced all the rotten timbers, rebuilt the walls, roof, floor, door, windows... I was really pleased with the result, as was the client!
From my time at the RHS shows I learned more usefull skills in garden design and landscaping.
I have always been a keen photographer with my first commission being one where I was asked to do portraits of the senior management of a californian
company, which was a job I couldn’t resist!
I have been designing and making furniture for the past 15 years with fully fitted wardrobes being a speciality.
I have a natural ability for design as well as extensive skills when working with a vast variety of materials. I can turn my hand to most things.
